Share Updated: 11:26 AM MDT Jun 10, 2021 A Las Cruces woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for child abuse that resulted in the death of her 7-week-old baby in 2018. In 2018, Las Cruces police were dispatched to a home where they found the infant unresponsive. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital before being transported to an El Paso hospital. Doctors at both hospitals noted signs of a brain bleed and other injuries consistent with child abuse and shaken baby syndrome. On Thursday the district attorney announced that the infant’s mother, Caricia L. Ceballos, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of Child Abuse causing Great Bodily Harm. The father, Marcus Minnick, is awaiting trial.
